“The security of the global technology supply chain had been compromised, even if consumers and most companies didn’t know it yet.”

Up to 30 companies may have been hacked as well as US government departments. Microchips have allegedly been installed on motherboards manufactured in China for Supermicro, compromising the global technology supply chain. The microchips, as small as a pencil tip, were inserted at Chinese factories that supplied Supermicro. The motherboards were built into servers and are used in dozens of companies’ data centres.

This attack highlights the importance of proper due diligence to examine the threats and vulnerabilities inherent in a global tech supply chain.
